Belay My Last

Belay my last is most brutal. They have only released one album, The Downfall and subsequently broke up. BML is somewhat demonic although they hover tightly around the deathcore style. BML know what they're doing; I like the fast, punchy drums and relatively sophisticated guitar chords. One the best things about this band is the integrity in the guitar compositions. BML pulls off a lot of chugging without it being just a bunch of open five power chords; Instead they keep the dissonance burning with original guitar composition. Another asset of this band is the bass. There is almost always something going on with the bass other than following the guitar or drum rhythm an octave lower. The vocalist has as nice range and I especially like his low-end non-bree tone coupled with high demonics. The vox are also more emotional than typical death metal screaming yet lack nothing in technique. Basically there's something that shines about every part of the very heavy BML arsenal.
That being said BML is not very dynamic inter-song or within songs. There are hardly ever quiet or contrasting sections and the monotony would be hard to bear if not for the exceptional instrumentals. This band is great for a certain mood but not much beyond. Very dark and heavy.
