Born of Osiris

Born of Osiris is one my favorite bands of all time. The concept themes center around, among others, Egyptian mythology, totalitarianism, and spiritual or emotional struggles. Born of Osiris doesn't write anything too generic although it could be a little more dynamic overall. Their drums and guitar are up to par with the modern competition and the keyboard adds a unique element that many similar bands could use. They are medium-high techy but still fun and easy to listen to. Plenty of melody and fairly mature chugging swirled together with the synth and clean drums. The vocals are nothing super special but quite decent. The lyrics are the same way and are themed like typical lyrics of the same genre(s).
I'm impressed by the young age of the band considering their considerable instrumental capacity. These guys know what they're doing and sound catchy too. BOO knows how to dish out the brutality but only do so maturely; they largely leave it up to the melody.
The second album called A Higher Place is quite a bit different than the first especially in terms of tone and production; It's more atmospheric and mature overall with a more Meshuggah-like guitar style. The first album, The New Reign, on the other hand is very punchy and has more breakdowns--a little more generic although it has a lot to offer. Definitely more of a "core" factor although I wouldn't quite call it deathcore which I hear is often quite negative these days.
